Value Statement and Code of Conduct

All participants (e.g., attendees, speakers, organizers, exhibitors, guests, accompanying persons, etc.) should have the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from all ECP events and activities. Thus, we should work together to provide a friendly, inclusive, and supportive environment for everyone, regardless of their sex, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical appearance, disability, nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, career status, or any other group identity. This environment should also be one where we all bear in mind the need for professionalism and awareness about power differentials (e.g., between senior and junior participants, or between participants with different assets and advantages) in all interactions, both at the conference venue and outside of it.

The European Association of Personality Psychology (EAPP) subscribes to the following core values in all its activities, including the ECP:

 free and respectful expression of ideas;
 diversity in its various social aspects (e.g., group membership, including those from underrepresented and underprivileged groups and those with unique backgrounds and experiences), and also in thematic and methodological aspects;
 equity of opportunities and representation;
 inclusion in decisions and activities to leverage the effects of diversity.

It may be at times difficult to balance these values (e.g., free expression of ideas and the critical examination of beliefs and points may interfere with equity), but nonetheless every effort should be made to reconcile and uphold them during the ECP.

The ECP seeks to provide an environment in which all participants may learn, network, and enjoy the company of each other with mutual respect. We thus have a shared responsibility to:
 communicate professionally and constructively, whether in person or virtually;
 frame discussions as openly and inclusively as possible;
 facilitate inclusion and community-building;
 be open to others’ perspectives and alternate points of view;
 handle dissent or disagreement with courtesy, dignity, and an open mind;
 provide constructive and respectful feedback.

Physical, verbal, sexual, or any other form of discrimination (based on sex, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical appearance, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, or any other group identity), privileging, harassment, intimidation, threat, or abuse in person, in writing, or virtually will not be tolerated.

If you perceive unacceptable behaviour towards you or others or have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of the ombudspersons of the ECP21:
 VERONICA BENET-MARTINEZ (veronica.benet@upf.edu)
 FRIEDRICH GÖTZ (friedrich.goetz@ubc.ca)

Any concerns or issues will be taken very seriously and addressed as swiftly as possible. Concerns and names will be treated confidentially; at no point such details will be shared without the explicit consent of the reporting person.
