Additional train tips:
For trip from/to Austria check both German and Austrian website – prices might differ:
- Deutsche Bahn DB Cheap Train Tickets | Timetables for Germany & Europe - Deutsche Bahn
- Österreichische Bundesbahnen ÖBB Angebote & Tickets (oebbtickets.at)
- Oftentimes DB (and ÖBB) have cheap offers called “Sparschiene Tickets/Sparpreis”. They can usually not be refunded (which is different to “FlexTickets”). These tickets can be found with the regular ticket search, e.g., here: Cheap Train Tickets | Timetables for Germany & Europe - Deutsche Bahn
Make sure to check the “Show our best prices” option
- Cityticket
When buying a train ticket with Deutsche Bahn for a long-distance travel (cheapest price and flex price; train classes ICE, IC/EC), a ticket for the local transportation (bus, subway, local trains) in the destination city is included. This is valid on the arrival day for traveling from the train station to the final destination. (It is also valid for the departure—i.e. going to the train station—when departing from a German city).
If this applies to your ticket, it should say “+City”
For more information see: City-Ticket - kostenfreie Anfahrt und Weiterfahrt in öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln (bahn.de)(unfortunately only available in German)
